Full Form of UPS in Computer:
UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply
or
Uninterruptible Power Source.
What is UPS ?
UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply and is Secondary Generated Power Source which is used when the Primary or Main Power Fails. It provides the Energy Stored in Batteries and Super capacitors. The run time of Most of the UPS are generally Short because they don't have huge capacity to store the power.
UPS ( Uninterruptible Power Supply) is generally used to start a Stand by Power source and also to Properly Shut down the Secured Equipment.
Types of UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply)
The Uninterrupted Power Source is of Two Types :
1) Stand-By or Line Interactive UPS :
These type of UPS are also called Offline UPS. Stand-by means when Primary power shut down then it goes from Primary to Secondary Power in Couple of few mili-seconds. At this moment, the device is not receiving any Power supply. Generally Stand-by or Line interactive UPS is used in Computers.
2) ONLINE UPS :
In this type of UPS, a particular Inverter is assigned to the UPS itself which is constantly running with the flow of time. Online UPS is generally costly than Stand-by UPS and it has a Cooling Fan installed in it which creates a lot of Noise.
Why UPS is Used ?
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is used to Secure and protect the Hardware and Electrical Components of Computers , Data-Centers etc. It is used because an Unexpected Power Loss or Power cut can Create a big Damage , Fatalities , Injuries or Data Loss of the system or Data Center.
Latest UPS Features :
In latest UPS there is a software which automaticallty saves the Working data safely and then shut down the System itself.
How to Choose a GOOD UPS :
- UPS must have Less Noise.
- The UPS must have a Great Battery Size.
- UPS must Control Voltage Spikes or Over Voltage.
